Hotel RUH

I waited a couple more hours until I was called to go to theatre. I had met my anaesthetist who was German and resembled a crazy scientist. Very tall and slim with glasses, a white coat and crazy hair! I had asked him for pre op drugs earlier in the day and he refused.

He told me in theatre that he was ready to give me the drugs and there I went. I was holding on to my lovely pillow that Cherry had given me in the morning. It's been my life saver!

And off to sleep I went. Bliss.

I woke up around 7.30pm in a recovery area. They were keeping an eye on me while I woke up. I was still a bit out of it when they wheeled me through to the ward where I was to stay the night. I tried to say that I was meant to be a day case and that they were mistaken, but that had changed. I got to see Matt and my Mom briefly before I dozed off again...

The wonderful nurses kept bringing me morphine and codeine on demand and I slipped in and out of sleep which was amazing. It was a shame they woke me up every couple of hours to check my blood pressure! They also put a pump on my legs to massage them to get my circulation going.

I had some tea and a bowl of porridge which tasted amazing. The nurses swapped shifts and I was left without painkillers for 5 hours which wasn't fun. Eventually I made my way to the desk and asked them to phone the pharmacy to get my drug chart! The nurse was stroppy but did it anyway and within 20mins, I had my painkillers and the antibiotics that were overdue. Lunch was fab again but I couldn't wait to go home.

Late afternoon my drug prescription was ready and my family could come and get me. I was pushed to the car in a wheelchair as old as the hills, but grateful not to have to walk to the car. An hour later, I was tucked up in bed and on the road to recovery!
