Surgery day

I'd been having acupuncture treatments prior to surgery day, with a treatment the evening before. Whether it was the acupuncture or something else, I felt remarkably calm. I had had bloods and blood pressure taken at a pre op appointment a few days before and was ready for the surgery.

It was a long, slow, agonising day. I was at admissions by 7am and my surgery ended up happening around 3.30pm. Not good for those of us that get hangry!

I had to have a wire localisation done, which meant that I would have a long, thin wire inserted into my breast (after a jab of the old local a), and it would be guided in by the radiologist during an ultrasound scan. It wasn't too bad although it did feel a little weird with a long bit of wire sticking out of me. The clip was the worst bit of it. It's like they stapled it onto my skin!

Next up was the mammogram to take images of it from all angles to make sure that it was in place correctly to let Mr Sutton find the tissue he needed to remove. Not so nice with a wire in your boob!

I was due to wait around while they dealt with a small emergency. I'm now wondering if that small emergency was me.

Cherry asked me if I'd like to sit in a private waiting room until they called me for my radioactive liquid injection. I thought this was great! How could she know that I'd prefer some quiet time? Silly me. It's because they wanted to give me some bad news...
