Chemotherapy round 1

Hi everyone!

It's been a little while since I last posted. I've been a little under the weather. I had my first round of chemo over 2 days on the 6th and 7th of October in case I had a reaction from any of the drugs.

I thought that I had superhuman powers after, as for the first couple of days, besides tiredness, I felt ok! Then it hit me. 3-4 days in, I started feeling very unwell. I ended up staying in hospital for 3 nights with suspected gastroenteritis. After lots of antibiotics, fluids and tests, it turns out I just had a bad reaction to the chemo. I was allowed to go home on Sunday despite being very vulnerable to infections due to low white blood cells. I was told to be sensible but the doctor knew I was chomping at the bit to go home and would do anything he said.

My hair is still clinging on for dear life. I'm on day 12 and have a tender scalp, however they say that it only really starts coming out around day 14.

I'm feeling so much better, and although nausea has hit, I do feel a bit more human.
Later today, I'm off to a wonderful (free) Living Well with the Impact of Cancer residential course in Bristol. The programme is full of relaxation, mindfulness and healthy eating sessions. It looks fantastic and I've really been looking forward to it.

I am so grateful for all the support I've received throughout my diagnosis and treatment so far. I am so glad I joined the Younger Breast Cancer Network group. I've met some amazing people and we're really like a little gang. Thank you Rachele for keeping me sane in my more neurotic meltdowns.

I'm planning on taking control and shaving my hair off at the first sign of hair loss. I'll share photos soon.

Please share my blog as much as possible. I'm so grateful to those of you who have shared it already. By doing that, you've sent people my way, and in turn, I've helped them find the amazing support that is out there.

I've got lots of exciting stuff coming up. Another course in November and the "Look Good Feel Better" Workshop which I will share with you all.

I'll also be giving my blog a little makeover (just in time for my new look), so watch this space!

In the meantime, here is an infographic to show you how to check for lumps. But please remember that any breast changes that are not usual for you should be checked as soon as possible.
